World-famous film director Emir Kusturica is in Armenia on March 4-6 at the invitation of the RA Ministry of Culture. His visit is a huge event in Armenian cultural life. During his three-day visit, Kusturica will have meetings with the RA President, Catholicos of All Armenians and the RA Minister of Culture.
He will also visit Tsitsernakaberd to pay tribute to the victims of the Great Armenian Genocide, as well as lay wreaths in front of the memorial dedicated to the Serbian pilots who died. The most important event will be the world-famous Serbian film director’s joint concert with the group “No Smoking Orchestra” on March 5.Yesterday evening, Kusturica visited the Sergey Parajanov house-museum and was then invited by the Armenian Prime Minister and Minister of Culture to be present at the concert of Italian musicians Mario Stefano and Luca Lucini at “Mezzo”.
Kusturica will perform today and will meet with journalists at “Armenia Marriot” hotel at 2 p.m.The Serbian film director of Bosnian origin Emir Kusturica is the fourth film director in the history of filmmaking who has received the “Golden Date” award at Cannes Festival twice. He has numerous award-winning films such as “Underground”, “Life is wonderful”, “Black cat, white kitten”.
Kusturica was born on November 27, 1954 in Sarajevo. At 18, Kusturica left Sarajevo to study at the Faculty of Cinema and Television of the Leading Academy of Performing Arts in Prague and produced his first films during his years of study.
